Reserve Officers

The Batesville Police Department welcomes the application of reserve officers, classified as auxiliary officers by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training. By definition, an auxiliary law enforcement officer refers to a reserve, volunteer, mounted patrol or similarly titled appointed officer who does not receive a salary or wages for the performance of his or her duties.

A reserve officer, when performing assigned duties under the direction of a full-time officer, has the authority of a police officer. When not performing assigned duties or under direct supervision, a reserve officer has no authority other than that of a private citizen. Reserve officers are allowed to perform non-law enforcement tasks, such as traffic direction, parade functions, etc., as assigned by the agency.

Applicants must be 21 years old, a U.S. citizen and pass a thorough background check. Reserves are appointed by the Batesville PD following the completion of training requirements established by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training as well as a minimum 100 hours of training provided by the police department, including a firearms qualification course.
